Define your Intent with social media

Do you frequently find yourself scrolling through the black hole of your social media feeds? yeah me too.

Like you, I’ve probably lost too many hours I’d like to count wondering around my social channels and partaking in mindless random consumption. I go in for 5 mins I tell myself, just to check this update and I emerge 4 hours later drowning from the Instagram “influencers”.

Yet it doesn’t have to be this way and for the best part of the last 12 months, I’ve been trying to make my relationship with these platforms healthier. Something that has worked well for me is taking breaks from social media completely every few months, this instils in me that I can live happily without these tools. Now when it comes to my usage outside of these breaks, I’ve been developing a intentional approach to my use. I regularly ask myself – what is my intent for looking at twitter right now? am I looking for something or am I just about to jump into random consumption.

I’ve found taking that 2 second pause to consider my intent has made me more accountable then ever in my relationship with social media and one I can report for the better.

If you’re struggling to get a hold of your social media use and want to build a healthier relationship with this, then I encourage you to think about a approach with intent. Always ask yourself, what is my intent in using x app right now?
