The 3 questions Tony Robbins shared with me to find meaning in life

I’m sure a few of you have heard of Tony Robbins at some point. He’s kind of a self-help/life coach to CEO’s, actors, musicians and even a few presidents. If you Google Tony Robbins, you’ll find lots of his work, books, documentaries and events available to view online.

I first came across Tony a few years ago on an episode of Tim Ferriss’ podcast and was intrigued by his work and most notably who he had worked with in a coaching capacity. It was evident that he had some great knowledge to share for those who were willing to listen and this prompted me to signup to this weekly newsletter (I too have a weekly newsletter, subscribe here if you’d like more content like this).

It was through this newsletter that Tony shared some great insight that has stuck with me to this day and I regularly share with others when I speak to them about the purpose of life and how they can figure out what they wish to do in their own. I’m going to share the same insight with you now in the form of 3 questions that I reflect on in-depth at least 2-3 times a year and check in with on a daily basis. These questions make sure that I know what my own purpose is, they allow me to figure out my own goals and what I want to do with my own life.

The big 3 to ask yourself

What is something I can do for someone else today?

What is something I can do to add value to the world?

What is something that I have to offer other people?

Reviewing these questions daily allows me to think about other people and not be so self absorbed on my own problems. I have found this to be a great help with my own mental health and compassion for others. They also serve as a reminder to why I do what I do in this world, they set my purpose in that I’m clear and feel that what I do does add value to the world, is offering people something useful and supports others in their own day to day.

I mentioned that I also reformat these questions to use in several yearly reviews too. I find this structure very helpful in not only planning personal life goals, but what I want to do in my professional career too. Once again I find these to be a great resource in making sure that what I am doing is aligned to my own values and feelings in the work I want to do.

How you can use these

When you next take time to reflect, whether that be on the purpose of your own life or what to do next in your career, use these 3 questions as a framework to really get to what drives you, what makes you happy and ultimately what will give you purpose in life.
