In these strange times, it seems that many of us are finding more available time than we are used to.
I keep seeing lots of content telling people to do lots of stuff with the extra time they might have right now. Whilst encouragement is great, I can see how it might negatively affect others who don’t feel this way.
We are all different and I think most of us are in two frames of mind right now:
1. I’m going to use this time to learn lots of stuff, build my skills, read that book etc.
2. This situation sucks, I just want to chill. I know I should probably do something with my time but I just feel a bit crap about all this and want to chill out.
Both are equally valid and we should let people feel and do whatever they feel is best for them right now.
I personally, drop in and out of both these mindsets. Sometimes several times in the week and even several times in a day. But that’s ok, as like you, I am a conflicted human after all.
We are in strange times and adding even more pressure with telling yourself that you should be doing this or that won’t help. Just connect with your feelings and process this moment as you wish.
Perhaps that is reading lots of books and learning new skills. It might also be chilling out, letting the mind wander and processing everything day by day.
No matter what it is, do what works for you.
Don’t feel bad if you don’t want to go and learn a million new things in any extra time that you might have. Just because someone on a social feed somewhere says you should do this, doesn’t actually mean you should.
Sometimes doing nothing and letting the mind wander is exactly what we need.
